This one-year programme, taken following Year 2 of the BDS, provides an opportunity for the in-depth study of one of a range of disciplines and will help you develop study and research skills useful to both your dental studies and your career opportunities beyond graduation. These skills will be assessed in a degree examination to ensure that you are ready to go on to provide dental care for patients in Year 3.
The Dental Hospital and School forms a very important part of the local community and you will be involved in learning essential skills in a vibrant and enjoyable teaching hospital environment which provides a wide range of services and specialist care for referred patients. By virtue of its clinical training program, the college provides more direct clinical care to Aboriginal patients than any other Health Science college. Many dental programs offer different concentrations for students who have a fine-tuned idea of the type of oral health care they wish to provide.
Dental schools in America currently offer two different types of program that qualify students to practice as dentists once licensed: the Doctor of Dental Surgery and the Doctor of Dental Medicine. Whether opening their own practice or working with a team of dentistry professionals, dentists also frequently oversee the work of others in the office, including dental hygienists and assistants. The UAB School of Dentistry is the perfect launching pad for the advancement of your career in dental healthcare.
The UAB School of Dentistry continues to supply the community with nothing but the world’s most equipped and knowledgeable dentists with our accredited predoctoral and 8 accredited postdoctoral areas of study. At UAB’s School of Dentistry, we have strong dedication to imparting the next generation of dentist practitioners with knowledge, the kind of knowledge that empowers the brightest minds to provide the most powerful dental care. Some dental school graduates opt for one or two years of additional education in a general practice residency or advanced education in general dentistry program, rather than immediately going into practice.
At Sala Family Dentistry – Pediatrics and Orthodontics, we make it our mission to provide our patients with outstanding dental and orthodontic care in a fun and compassionate environment for all ages. Both medicine and dentistry degrees equip students with the vital practical skills to do surgical procedures, for example, as well as with the people skills necessary to interact with patients and their relatives. Join Professor Christopher Stokes from the School of Clinical Dentistry at The University of Sheffield on a learning journey to explore the dental profession and the impact dentistry has on all our lives.
You will devote significant time each week to the clinical care of patients including tuition in conservative dentistry and prosthodontics. You will be introduced to: the normal biological structure and function of cells, the body’s main organs and systems, oral biology, the effects of illness on people and their families, the impact of environmental and social factors on health and clinical skills; dental materials and their application; key early clinical skills and critical thinking. You will also experience the community aspects of dentistry through studying Dental Public Health.
In addition, dental students develop their clinical skills in several of our key outreach clinics, ensuring that they experience a wide range of primary care settings. The Big Ten Network (BTN) visited the School of Dentistry in November 2017 and filmed aboard the UCare Mobile Dental Clinic as part of its video story about outreach projects and research happening on the University of Minnesota campus. We offer opportunities to prepare for dental school, pursue a dental degree, continue your education, and advance your training and career as a dental professional.
Whether it is providing preventative care, delivering dental restorative procedures, eliminating pain or correcting dento-facial esthetics, often, in a single visit, the dentist can experience the satisfaction, privilege and joy of positively transforming a patient’s life by restoring oral health. The clinical element of both of these courses is delivered at our state-of-the-art Dental Education Centres which ensure that our students are training in exactly the primary care environment they will be joining once qualified. Many years of experience and quality provision have informed the establishment of the BDS graduate entry dental programme within our School of Dentistry.
The School also has a strong focus on continuing professional development and allows General Dental Practitioners the opportunity to further their skills and education in their chosen area of interest, whilst maintaining their clinical practice. The Dean’s Faculty comprises dedicated alumni and non-alumni volunteer dentists and dental hygienists who contribute significantly to the mission of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
The goal of the program is to develop innovative practices in oral health care delivery systems to provide care to populations that evidence-based studies have shown have the highest disease rates and the least access to dental care. Qualified dentists may enter general practice, may enter the community dental service, or may undertake further study with a view to specialising in a number of disciplines or becoming university academics.
